Weirdly I found the driver on Dell’s net,ink and downloaded it from there, removed the original driver from Broadcom and added in Dells driver the only difference was in boadcom name of the driver, gone was the 3com bit and in was “Broadcom Netlink Gigabit” and all worked fine with updating the boot images etc.
